Rylatt was hired as commissariat for [[Walter Moberly]]'s survey party 'S'. This book tells of his adventures traveling from [[New Westminster]] to the [[East Kootenays]], then north to the end of the [[Howse Pass]] during the 1871 season. The party moves north to east end of the [[Yellowhead pass]] during the 1872 season. When he hears of his wife's death, he and another man travel west down the [[North Thompson]] to [[Kamloops]] during 1873. Very interesting reading.
