Joseph Hunter was an explorer and surveyor.
He worked for a number of years on the CPR surveys:
- 1873 - trail cutting with 'X'
- 1874 - explored Murtle Lake, and led 'Y'
- 1875 - led 'Y'
- 1876 - led 'Y'
