Savona is a small community at the west end of Kamloops Lake. In the mid-1800s, Mr. Savona ran a ferry for passengers across the Thompson River. Travellers from the Cariboo Road in Cache Creek would cross the Thompson River on their way to Kamloops.

In the 1880s, Savona was the eastern end of the original contracts signed by Andrew Onderdonk for the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The rails reached the community in early 1885. Andrew Onderdonk continued construction east under contract directly with the CPR.
